MANDELA WASHINGTON FELLOWSHIP FOR YOUNG AFRICAN LEADERS



President Obama, while addressing 500 extraordinary Young African Leaders in Washington DC, USA, announced a change in Washington Fellowship to Mandela Fellowship for Young African Leaders, on 28th of July, 2014. This gesture by Mr. President was done in honour of Nelson Mandela. He also promised to double the number of annual participants in the Mandela Washington Fellowship to 1000 by the summer of 2016. He has fulfilled his promise by inviting 1000 Young African Leader to apply for 2016 Mandela Washington Fellowship 
“Prosperity and Security and Justice that we seek in the World today cannot be achieved without a strong and prosperous reliance in Africa” Obama Confessed.
 The Mandela Washington Fellowship is the flagship program of the President’s Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) and embodies President Obama’s commitment to invest in the future of Africa.  The first class of Mandela Washington Fellows arrived in mid-June  for six weeks of intensive executive leadership training, networking, and skills building, followed by a Presidential Summit in Washington, DC.  Through this initiative, young African leaders are gaining the skills and connections they need to accelerate their own career trajectories and contribute more robustly to strengthening democratic institutions, spurring economic growth, and enhancing peace and security in Africa. This initiative also provides young African leaders an opportunity to network online.
YALI Network, an online community (on Facebook, Twitter, and Google Plus) across Africa was also created for sharing ideas and forging new collaborations among African leaders to realize the change that they seek. 
“The spirit of this YALI reflects Mandiba’s Optimism, Idealism and he’s belief in what he called Endless Heroism of Youth” Obama declared.
